Kalmanstjörn

Kalmanstjörn is StofnFiskur´s second largest brood stock farm for Atlantic salmon. The farm started to operate in 1985 and was acquired by Stofnfiskur 1991.

The farm is land-based and located close to the ocean on the southwest corner of Iceland. Sea- and freshwater is pumped up from deep drilled boreholes in a closed system, which ensures no contact with wild fish. This is essential in the support of our strict bio security system implemented on the farm.

Smolt intakes occur twice per year from our own closed freshwater hatchery, Kollafjörður. All tanks are in-door and specially designed for broodstock farming.

At Kalmantjörn we have seven employees and the production capacity is around 90 million eyed salmon eggs a year.

Vogavík

Vogavík is Stofnfiskur’s largest brood stock farm for Atlantic salmon.

We bought the farm in 2004 as the first step in an expansion plan to secure an every week availability of newly stripped salmon eggs for our customers

The farm is land-based and located close to the ocean on the southwest corner of Iceland.  Sea- and freshwater is pumped up from deep drilled boreholes in a closed system, which ensures no contact with wild fish and secures high levels of bio-security.

The farm is closed to all fish with the exception of two intakes of smolts per year, each taken from our own closed hatchery, Kollafjörður.

In Vogavík we have 11 employees. All tanks are specially designed for brood stock farming and are in-door and on land. The farm has a production capacity of about 110 million eyed ova each year.

Incubation Centre

Incubation center

Our Incubation Center is located on the southwest coast of Iceland. The center was bought it in 2004 and we incubated the first salmon eggs in 2006.

The incubation center is specially designed to keep salmon eggs from fertilization to the eyed egg stage, when they are ready to be shipped. All freshwater used is pumped up from deep boreholes thus ensuring high quality water that is naturally filtered and has not been in any contact with wild fish. The quality of the water is so good that the local households in Vogar town, nearby use our boreholes as the freshwater source for consumption.

The center is equipped with incubators specially designed to incubate eggs from each female separately. Even though no virus- or bacteria diseases have ever been found at Stofnfiskur the individual incubation enables us to screen each female for whatever bacteria or virus pathogens each customer requires.

We have five employees working at the incubation center.
