This was a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds and cooperation between Iceland and Norway, says dr. Jonas Jonasson.

BERGEN: Thursday March 23de the Icelandic President Guðni Jóhannesson and his wife Eliza Reid visited Bergen as part of his official trip to Norway. StofnFiskur had the honour of attending a seminar on fisheries and aquaculture where both the President and King Harald of Norway attended.

The seminar with the title “Sustainability for the Future-Value Creation from the Ocean” was part of the official state visit from Iceland to Norway, in collaboration with Promote Iceland, Iceland’s Embassy, The University of Bergen and Innovation Norway.

CEO Jonas Jonasson and Chief Strategic Officer Bara Gunnlaugsdottir of StofnFiskur both attended the seminar. Being part of Benchmark Breeding and Genetics, with operations in both countries they see advantages in cooperation on a governmental level.

-This was a great opportunity to strengthen the bonds and cooperation between Iceland and Norway, says dr. Jonas Jonasson. Both nations have large interests and competence in the fisheries and aquaculture industry; we can only gain from working closer together. Fishfarming in Iceland will soon be taken to another level were increase in production is expected. It is very important that Iceland has access to the knowhow in Norway to manage increased production with view to both technical and environmental issues that may arise. Furthermore, the development in fish processing in both countries is important to increase shelf life of our products as well as further development of readymade packing to supermarkets to increase the value our fantastic farmed and wild caught fish.
